First day of your period? Feeling the need to fling off your daily responsibilities, throw yourself on the couch and retreat into your inner world?
Enter: The Period First Aid Kit!
In it you will find as many things as we could think of to make your Day 1 as smooth as possible, and to enable you to take some all-important MeTime as you honour your flow. We recommend spending as much of the day as possible lying on the couch, under a duvet, nibbling on delicious chocolate, being kind to your senses with relaxing natural spa treats - watching your favourite film, reading a great book, sleeping, listening to your chill playlist, etc..
Day 1 is the first day of your main flow. Spotting days do not count. Sometimes we feel this need to withdraw the day before the main flow, and sometimes we feel the same urge to stop during Ovulation. Listen to your body, it will let you know!
The Need to Rest
Experts in Menstrual Cycle Awareness* tell us that the more we live in sync with our Menstrual Cycle, the happier we will be, and importantly, the fewer menstrual symptoms we will have. This means adapting what we do during the phases of our cycle to what our body is telling us about our needs - energy, sociability, strength, stamina and so on.
The one phase of the cycle that is hardest to honour is our bleeding phase, because modern life has us rushing about under the stress of constant demands, yet this is the time of the month when we most need to stop normal life and retreat into ourselves, taking it easy, eating well, and only doing what we really feel like doing - pottering about if we feel like it, without feeling pushed. This is the phase in our cycle where our Women's Intuition comes in, where we can gain insight into our life's desires and direction, and often 'out of the blue' we know how to proceed in the following month. I know you will not alwyays be able to take time out as much as you may want, but to do it for half a day, for a couple of hours, for half an hour, even for 5 minutes will be truly worthwhile.
*Wild Power, by Alexandra Pope and Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer | Code Red, by Lisa Lister. I can't recommend these books enough for help with menstrual cycle awareness.
So tuck yourself up under the duvet, chocolate in hand, and use your Period First Aid Kit to honour your flow...
What's in the Box:-
A Regular Pad of your size and colour choice. This will be for average flow, light dribbles, and is always a useful size
BunchaFarmers Stain Stick to keep your pads as good as new. Use from the get go, and your pads will be stain free
A Menstrual Journal notebook for you to record how you feel throughout the month. Use this beautiful book to record your emotions, your energy levels, how sociable you feel, your deep needs, and so on. Over a few months you will see patterns emerging, and then you can start to plan your life around your needs rather than just being buffeted about by life with no control. You might find for instance that on day 8 you feel super focussed and buzzing with energy for new projects. This is the time of the month to plan to write that assignment or enter that marathon! You might find that day 25 you feel like you hate your significant other and you just want to go around shouting at everyone and telling them how you really feel! This is not the time for diplomatic conversations or giving to others. Chart your cycle and you will see :)
HYF Pen with a cute reminder of the main highlights of the menstrual cycle on it
An HYF Sleep Mask so you can have a comfortable daytime kip without the light bothering you. The colour will be the same as your Regular pad, unless you leave us a comment with another preference
Magnesium - 3 months' supply. Magnesium is essential for everyone, and is largely depleted from non-organic soils, so if you don't eat organic, you will probably need Magnesium. It is especially important for keeping your menstrual cycle smooth. It acts on muscles and the nervous system, so it can reduce cramping and migraines and because of it's effect on the Pituitary Gland (which produces many important hormones), it helps regulate Oestrogen and Progesterone production, so can help minimise Premenstrual Syndrome. We bring you a top quality Magnesium supplement by Wassen, which has been specifically blended with other essential ingredients to support the menstrual cycle
Chocolate - strong dark chocolate of the most delicious kind, because cacao contains high levels of Magnesium. Just think of it as medicine!
Crisps - because who doesn't want a gluten free vegan crunch treat? We've chosen a delicious top of the range crisp for you which you might not have tried before.
Tea Sachets - either PUKKA Womankind which are hibiscus, rose and cranberry blended with other relaxing and hormone balancing herbs. Or might be YOGI TEA - Women's Balance which are less fruity and more licoricey. Stay hydrated!
HYF Fridge Magnet with guidance about the phases of the menstrual cycle. Put it up there to remind yourself, and to show off to your friends!
HYF Cycle Tracker Card - just mark your period and ovulation dates to keep track month on month
Flawless Face Sheet - Hydrating and soothing, to place on your face as you lie on the couch, and chill baby, chill! Flawless Heated Eye Mask which gives you a good half hour of steamy hotness over your eyes, and I have to say (having tried it myself) it is absolutely wonderful! And I recommend using the HYF Sleep Mask over the top for a full dark and warm relaxation. Compostable, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Self-heating in a few seconds for 30 minutes of pure bliss!
